Journey to Divinity
Pure Love of an Avatar -
A Tribute to Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Carole Alderman
A heart-warming autobiography that traces a personal voyage of discovery.  Moving and inspiring by turns, Carole Alderman’s account of her exploration of the spiritual path presented by Sathya Sai Baba is readable and engaging. More importantly, it has much to relate about human values and educational practice.

To quote from the opening pages:
The purpose of writing this book is fourfold.
  • Firstly, to show the foolishness of the ego, or false self, that I and most of us identify with and believe is “Me”.
  • Secondly, to show the importance of teaching Human Values to children to enable them to reach their potential in life and be happy.
  • Thirdly, to relate my experiences with my guru, Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
  • Fourthly, to empower women to believe in themselves and their capabilities, and realize they can make a difference to the world.

"There are in India, men and women who possess extraordinary powers. These powers are called siddhis, and if used for the benefit of others remain intact. These siddhis are gained by various methods, exercises, prayers and mantras which have to be repeated, perhaps hundreds of thousands of times, to give an effect.
Very rarely, a person is born who possesses the totality of all such powers. Such a person is called an Avatar, a divine person, descended from a higher level than others.
They come to help an ailing society which is going off the rails. They can only do what is good, and are full of a magnetic quality of pure love, drawing millions of people to them.
One such person was Sathya Sai Baba, whom I was fortunate to meet and interact with repeatedly over thirty years. It was to change my life dramatically."

About the Author
Carole Alderman grew up in post-war London and rose from a happy childhood to a busy professional life in the City of London. The early years were not without their difficulties - a troubled first marriage and the distressing trials of bringing up children as a working single mother - but she overcame the obstacles and in due course remarried and settled comfortably. The first lesson of this book is one of strength to other young mothers who are faced with such adversity, and how to steer a course through rough seas.
The second lesson is one of spiritual discovery. From the minute Carole met Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the head of an Ashram in Puttaparthi, India, she knew her life would be different. From that day forward, she redirected her energies to developing understanding of Sai Baba’s spiritual lessons. On his passing in 2011, she and her husband devoted themselves to spreading the important lessons of Education in Human Values (EHV), travelling widely to support educational programmes internationally, and carrying on the living message.
